After a meeting with Dauin Municipal Mayor Galicano Truita on July 11, 2024 at the Dauin Mega Market and Hotel, NOCCI President Du announced that the Grand Launching and Switch-On of the Paleng-QR Code PPP Project in the Municipality of Dauin will be conducted very soon, in which a specific date will be formally announced in the coming days.
The Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) is making significant strides toward the digital transformation of local marketplaces. Through its FreeWiFi Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Project Committee, NOCCI is collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Dauin, and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to launch the province’s first Paleng-QR Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project in Dauin, under the Negros Island Region.
The Paleng-QR PPP Project is designed to modernize payment systems within public markets by introducing QR code-based transactions. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of enhancing financial inclusion, fostering economic growth, and promoting digital literacy among small vendors and consumers alike.
During a recent meeting held on July 11, 2024, at the Dauin Mega Market and Hotel, NOCCI President Edward Du met with Dauin Municipal Mayor Galicano Truita to discuss the upcoming project. This meeting underscored the collaborative effort between NOCCI, DICT, BSP, and the Dauin LGU in driving the project forward. President Du highlighted the significance of the project for the local economy, noting that it would streamline transactions, reduce the reliance on cash, and bring more small-scale vendors into the digital economy.
President Du further announced that the Grand Launching and Switch-On of the Paleng-QR Code PPP Project in Dauin would be conducted very soon. While a specific date for the launch is yet to be finalized, the project is expected to create a ripple effect, encouraging other municipalities in Negros Oriental to adopt similar digital payment systems.
This initiative is a testament to NOCCI’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the local business community. By partnering with key government agencies and local government units, NOCCI aims to create a sustainable and inclusive economic environment. The introduction of the Paleng-QR project in Dauin is particularly significant as it marks the first of its kind in the province, setting a precedent for other regions in the Negros Island Region.
The DICT’s involvement in the project is crucial, as it will provide the necessary technological infrastructure and support for the digital payment system. Meanwhile, the BSP’s participation ensures that the project aligns with the national government’s thrust toward a cash-lite economy, which is part of the broader financial inclusion strategy of the Philippines.
The LGU of Dauin, under the leadership of Mayor Truita, has shown strong support for the project, recognizing its potential to boost local economic activity. The Dauin Mega Market, which will serve as the pilot site for the Paleng-QR project, is expected to see increased foot traffic and higher transaction volumes once the system is fully operational.
As the preparations for the launch continue, NOCCI and its partners remain committed to ensuring the project’s success. The upcoming formal announcement of the launch date will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Dauin’s economic landscape, one that embraces digital innovation and paves the way for future advancements in the region.
Paleng-QR PPP Project in Dauin represents a bold step forward for Negros Oriental, showcasing the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors. As NOCCI, DICT, BSP, and the LGU of Dauin work together to bring this project to fruition, the local community can look forward to a more efficient, secure, and inclusive marketplace.
