Negros Oriental PRDP Team Strengthens Agricultural Development at RAFIP Workshop
The Negros Oriental Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Team, spearheaded by Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) Executive Director and PRDP Focal Person John Jalandoni, participated in the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Investment Portfolio (RAFIP) Workshop held at Crown Regency Hotel and Towers in Cebu City. The event marked a pivotal step in advancing agricultural and fishery development across the region, aligning local priorities with the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) goals.
A Collaborative Approach to Regional Development
The RAFIP Workshop gathered key stakeholders from various sectors to develop a comprehensive, data-driven investment plan for agriculture and fisheries. Participants included local government units (LGUs), agriculture experts, and representatives from the private sector. The primary objective was to craft a portfolio that accurately reflects the region’s unique challenges and growth opportunities.
John Jalandoni emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the workshop’s objectives.
“This workshop provides an opportunity to align our collective efforts towards a shared vision of sustainable agricultural growth. With a comprehensive investment portfolio, we can better address the needs of Negros Oriental’s farmers and fisherfolk,” Jalandoni stated.
The Role of the Negros Oriental PRDP Team
The Negros Oriental PRDP Team played a significant role in shaping the RAFIP for the province. By integrating insights from the PLAN Component Head, I-REAP Component Head, and other team members, the group ensured a holistic approach to investment planning.
Key areas of focus included:
- Enhancing Local Agribusiness: Identifying and supporting high-potential projects to boost productivity and profitability.
- Fisheries Development: Addressing challenges faced by coastal communities and enhancing fishery resources.
- Infrastructure Support: Proposing investments in farm-to-market roads, irrigation systems, and other critical infrastructure.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Incorporating climate-resilient practices to safeguard long-term productivity.
Jalandoni noted that NOCCI’s participation underscored the importance of private sector involvement in shaping regional agricultural strategies.
“Our role as NOCCI is to ensure that the portfolio not only supports government objectives but also aligns with the realities of the business and farming communities we serve,” he said.
Data-Driven Planning for Effective Budgeting
The RAFIP Workshop placed a strong emphasis on the use of data to inform planning and budgeting decisions. By analyzing local agricultural trends, market demand, and environmental considerations, participants developed an evidence-based portfolio that can guide investment decisions.
Under the DA’s guidance, the RAFIP aims to address gaps in funding and resources while maximizing the impact of proposed projects.
“The integration of accurate data allows us to create a plan that is both realistic and impactful,” said a representative from the DA. “It ensures that every peso spent contributes to meaningful outcomes for our farmers and fisherfolk.”
Aligning Regional Goals with National Priorities
The RAFIP process serves as a critical link between local needs and national agricultural policies. By participating in the workshop, the Negros Oriental PRDP Team contributed to shaping a portfolio that aligns with the DA’s overarching goals of food security, rural development, and poverty alleviation.
The inclusion of sustainable practices, such as climate-smart agriculture, further underscores the commitment to creating resilient farming communities in Negros Oriental.
Empowering Local Farmers and Fisherfolk
One of the workshop’s primary outcomes is the prioritization of initiatives that directly benefit farmers and fisherfolk. From access to modern farming technologies to training programs that enhance productivity, the RAFIP reflects a commitment to uplifting the most vulnerable sectors in agriculture and fisheries.
“Empowering our farmers and fisherfolk is at the heart of this initiative,” Jalandoni shared. “By addressing their needs and providing them with the tools for success, we can drive inclusive economic growth in Negros Oriental.”
Next Steps: Implementing the RAFIP
With the RAFIP Workshop concluded, the focus now shifts to implementation. The Negros Oriental PRDP Team, along with NOCCI, will work closely with the DA and other stakeholders to ensure that the projects outlined in the portfolio are executed effectively.
“Success doesn’t end with planning; it begins with action,” Jalandoni emphasized. “NOCCI is committed to supporting the implementation phase to turn these plans into tangible outcomes.”
The RAFIP Workshop demonstrated the power of collaboration, data-driven planning, and community-focused strategies in driving regional agricultural development. Through the active participation of the Negros Oriental PRDP Team and NOCCI, the province is poised to realize its vision of a thriving agricultural sector that benefits all stakeholders.
As the province moves forward, the RAFIP will serve as a blueprint for sustainable growth, ensuring that investments in agriculture and fisheries translate into lasting progress for Negros Oriental and its people.
With initiatives like the RAFIP Workshop, Negros Oriental continues to strengthen its position as a leader in regional agricultural innovation and resilience.
