Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) President Edward Du had a meeting with Tayasan Municipal Mayor Susano Antonio Ruperto, III on NOCCI’s priority projects, programs, and activities. During the meeting, both parties also discussed the possible public-private partnership or the collaboration between NOCCI and the Local Government of Tayasan, particularly for Silica mining, MSME development and livelihood projects.

NOCCI Discusses Priority Projects with Tayasan Mayor

The Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) continues to strengthen its commitment to local economic development by exploring strategic collaborations with various municipalities in the province. Recently, NOCCI President Edward Du met with Tayasan Municipal Mayor Susano Antonio Ruperto, III to discuss NOCCI’s priority projects, programs, and activities. The meeting, which took place at the Tayasan Municipal Hall, focused on potential public-private partnerships and collaboration opportunities, particularly in the areas of Silica mining, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) development, and livelihood projects.

Edward Du opened the discussion by outlining NOCCI’s mission to foster economic growth and development across Negros Oriental. He highlighted the chamber’s ongoing initiatives and the positive impacts these projects have had on local communities. Du emphasized that NOCCI aims to build strong partnerships with local government units (LGUs) to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.Mayor Susano Antonio Ruperto, III expressed his appreciation for NOCCI’s proactive approach in engaging with the Tayasan municipality. He acknowledged the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in addressing the economic challenges faced by local communities. The mayor reiterated Tayasan’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote economic resilience and improve the quality of life for its residents.

A significant part of the meeting centered on the potential for Silica mining in Tayasan. Du and Mayor Ruperto discussed the economic benefits of developing the Silica mining sector, including job creation, increased local revenues, and infrastructure development. Du highlighted the need for responsible and sustainable mining practices to ensure environmental protection and long-term economic viability. The mayor agreed, emphasizing the importance of adhering to environmental regulations and ensuring that local communities benefit from such projects.The discussion also touched on the development of MSMEs, which are crucial for driving local economic growth. Du shared NOCCI’s plans to provide training, resources, and support to small and medium-sized businesses in Tayasan. He emphasized that empowering MSMEs would lead to a more vibrant and diverse local economy. Mayor Ruperto welcomed this initiative, noting that MSME development aligns with the municipality’s goals of fostering entrepreneurship and creating employment opportunities.

Livelihood projects were another key topic of the meeting. Du and Mayor Ruperto explored various livelihood programs that could be implemented to support the residents of Tayasan. These programs aim to provide alternative income sources, particularly for those affected by economic disruptions. The discussion included potential projects such as agricultural development, skills training, and community-based enterprises. Both parties agreed on the importance of designing these programs to be inclusive and sustainable.The meeting concluded with a discussion on formalizing the collaboration between NOCCI and the Tayasan LGU through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). This MOA would outline the roles and responsibilities of each party in implementing the discussed projects and initiatives. Du expressed his optimism about the potential of this partnership to drive significant economic progress in Tayasan. He assured Mayor Ruperto of NOCCI’s full support and commitment to the municipality’s development goals.

Mayor Ruperto also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting that the partnership with NOCCI would bring valuable expertise and resources to Tayasan. He stressed the importance of a collaborative approach in achieving sustainable development and improving the overall well-being of the community.The meeting between NOCCI President Edward Du and Tayasan Mayor Susano Antonio Ruperto, III marks a promising step towards enhanced public-private collaboration in Negros Oriental. By focusing on key areas such as Silica mining, MSME development, and livelihood projects, NOCCI and the Tayasan LGU are paving the way for a more resilient and prosperous local economy.
