NOCCI and SU TBI Discuss Partnership with Nanyang Technological University

In a significant move to bolster technological innovation and entrepreneurship, Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) Executive Director John Jalandoni met with representatives from the Silliman University-Technology Business Incubator (SU TBI). The meeting, held at Silliman University in Dumaguete City, focused on future collaboration and partnership opportunities with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, particularly in the area of technology business incubation.

John Jalandoni, known for his strategic vision in business development and investment promotion, emphasized the importance of such international partnerships in enhancing the local entrepreneurial ecosystem. He noted that collaboration with a prestigious institution like NTU could bring substantial benefits to Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, including access to advanced technologies, global best practices, and extensive networks.

The SU TBI, under the leadership of its manager, has been instrumental in fostering innovation and supporting startups in the region. By providing critical resources such as mentoring, funding opportunities, and a conducive workspace, SU TBI plays a pivotal role in the growth and sustainability of new ventures. The potential partnership with NTU aims to further elevate these efforts, aligning with global standards and expanding the reach of local entrepreneurs.

During the meeting, Jalandoni and the SU TBI team discussed several strategic initiatives to support the technology business incubation process. These initiatives include joint research and development projects, exchange programs, and the establishment of a collaborative incubation center. The proposed center would serve as a hub for innovation, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to interact with international experts, access cutting-edge technologies, and develop their ideas into viable businesses.

One of the key topics of discussion was the integration of NTU’s expertise in technology commercialization and startup acceleration. Jalandoni highlighted the need for local entrepreneurs to learn from NTU’s successful models and methodologies. He argued that adapting these models to the local context would significantly enhance the capacity of startups in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental to compete in the global market.

The meeting also explored the potential for organizing joint workshops, seminars, and training programs. These events would aim to equip local entrepreneurs with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the complexities of the technology business landscape. Topics such as digital marketing, intellectual property management, and venture capital funding were identified as crucial areas for capacity building.

Another focal point was the importance of fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within the local community. Jalandoni and the SU TBI team discussed strategies to encourage more young people to pursue entrepreneurial ventures. This includes integrating entrepreneurship education into academic curricula, providing mentorship opportunities, and creating platforms for aspiring entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas and receive feedback.

The collaboration with NTU is also expected to attract more investments into the region. Jalandoni emphasized that showcasing successful local startups and innovative projects could draw the attention of international investors and venture capitalists. This, in turn, would create more opportunities for funding and scaling local businesses.

NOCCI Executive Director John Jalandoni and the SU TBI team marked a significant step towards forging a strategic partnership with Nanyang Technological University. The proposed collaboration aims to enhance the technology business incubation ecosystem in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

By leveraging NTU’s expertise and resources, local startups can gain a competitive edge in the global market. The initiatives discussed during the meeting hold the potential to transform Dumaguete City into a thriving hub for technological innovation and entrepreneurship. As the region looks to the future, such partnerships will be crucial in driving sustainable development and creating a vibrant economic landscape.
